What are the secret forces that drove simple chemical compounds to form more complex molecules that ultimately created life on Earth? The universe uses humanity to answer these questions. Science is one of the ways the universe uses to interrogate itself.  And to pose the final question: why there is something rather than nothing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A different kind of fika<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Come and enjoy some coffee and science!<br>The Science Fika is a recurring event where we share our passion for science and talk about different topics in easy-to-understand language. At each event a speaker will have a 20 minutes presentation about a scientific concept, to stimulate your curiosity and to show you the beauty of science. We will provide free fika after the presentation, giving you the opportunity to mingle and discuss in a more informal way. This is the central question of subseasonal forecasting, which covers the period between short-term weather forecasts and seasonal outlooks. It is an important time scale for anticipating extreme events such as heavy rainfall, storms, or cold spells. In my work, I study large-scale atmospheric patterns and use statistical and dynamical tools to understand when forecasts are more or less reliable and how they can be improved. Detta \u00e4r den centrala fr\u00e5gan inom dels\u00e4songsbaserad prognostisering, som t\u00e4cker perioden mellan kortsiktiga v\u00e4derprognoser och s\u00e4songsbetonade utsikter. Det \u00e4r en viktig tidsskala f\u00f6r att f\u00f6rutse extrema h\u00e4ndelser som kraftigt regn, stormar eller k\u00f6ldperioder. I mitt arbete studerar jag storskaliga atmosf\u00e4riska m\u00f6nster och anv\u00e4nder statistiska och dynamiska verktyg f\u00f6r att f\u00f6rst\u00e5 n\u00e4r prognoser \u00e4r mer eller mindre tillf\u00f6rlitliga och hur de kan f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttras.
